My Personal ResponseDoug Lovgren
Not sure where the events of this world find you right now, but it has been a sad, convicting and shocking couple of weeks. Seeing what has transpired in Virginia has driven me to my knees. Seeing the responses in social media, from the press, political and other religious leaders has been heart stirring. Just when you think we are moving forward, hatred rears its ugly head again!
It is simply the work of the powers of this dark world. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms – Ephesians 6:12. We can only truly change the world one soul at a time. Each time the Pharisees tried to pull Jesus into a controversial topic, his response was designed for them to personally examine their position and heart in the matter….. that’s why I love Jesus.
As Christians, we need to get back to what Jesus would do, no more, no less. I am reminded what Jesus did when he was facing the greatest test of his life (cross)…….. 1 Peter 2:23 – When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. We are called to live godly lives in a pagan society and Christ left us an example that we should follow – 1 Peter 2:11-25.
Yes, I am appalled and saddened by the recent events in our world, and want to urge and remind us as to where our Hope must remain 1 Timothy 4:10 – That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe. And “Let us love one another for love covers over a multitude of sins – 1 Peter 4:8. We are one people before God!
God, His promises and Jesus Christ is the only hope we have. And we have this hope as an anchor for our soul – Hebrews 6:19. Let us go after being united in the spirit of peace Eph.4:1-3, while at the same time being beacons of light that shine brightly in this troubled world Matthew 5:16. United we must stand! Let us remain as prayerful as ever!
