Love Past BoundriesJessica May
On Saturday April 29th Dr. Gregg Marutsky and Dr. John Oakes presented the San Diego church of Christ with a day of teaching focused on grace. The “Grace Conference” was an encouraging reminder of the deep love and mercy of our God. Teaching ranged from theology to practical application with specific classes taught by evangelists and teachers in the san Diego church. All of the audio is available on the SDCOC website and Dr. Oakes’ website evidenceforchristianity.org.
The Grace conference was an incredible time to connect as a congregation and reflect on what we all have in common, a complete dependence on the power of God’s grace. There are so many theological issues, political arguments, and social divides in our world but teaching like this calls us back to our greater purpose. Putting an emphasis on God’s grace reminds us that we all have sinned and all need forgiveness. If an almighty and perfect God is willing to not only care for me but to die for me as well how much more so should I be willing to lavish grace on those around me. There is so much freedom in God’s grace but only by acknowledging the power of the gift can we revel in the unburdening of our souls.
When I live in the knowledge that I was bought at a price and I am forgiven, that is the power of Christ’s death at work in me. Through that power, I then have the power to love past the boundaries that this world insists must divide us. I can love past sin, past hurt, past shame, fear, and insecurity. I can love more than I am capable of when I am overflowing with the love of Christ. The grace conference reminded me that I was bought at a price so that grace could be a free gift.
